After Grenfell, Lambeth abolish tenants and leaseholder councils
Lambeth have formally abolished Tenants and Leaseholders Councils and it is being replaced with a new form of resident consultation most of which will be on-line.
Tenants Council resident members were very much opposed to this as Tenants Council was a very useful forum to question Lambeth Councillors and the executives directly on serious issues such as the health and safety of residents including fire precautions, contractor monitoring and major works programmes. Nothing trivial was ever discussed.
At a time when resident engagement should be a priority Lambeth is reducing significantly the opportunity to talk directly to those in charge.
The peoples audit carried out by a group of residents has highlighted many issues of concern regarding Lambeth’s management but we now have no forum to discuss the serious points it has raised.
