To focus on one of the most pressing issues facing Londoners, we´re throwing our first House Party! We´ll be taking over the splendid Brixton East 1871, right on the front line of the battle for decent housing, amid Brixton´s spiralling rent and hypergentrification.
This one´s for the people of South London… for everyone, whether they´ve lived here for 80 days or 80 years… for those who want to make sure these thriving, diverse communities don´t become mere suburbs for the City.
This one´s for people everywhere who put people firmly before blind profit. And want to have a bloody good time saying so!
Now for possibly our finest line up yet…
Bitch ‘n’ Monk – Yoko Ono´s favourite Anglo-Colombian progjazzpunkopera 2 piece.
“A poison apple sound of jazz, folk and classical […] One bite of this will send you into a lovesick coma and give you an electrifying kiss of life all at once.” – The Quietus
George Works – Because what would a fundraiser in Brixton be without some serious dub reggae? Skanking mandatory.
ZAZA – “a stunning dance sound with vibrations of West and North African roots music infused with a driving electric edge.”
(Antenna LOVES Afrobeat!)
Potent Whisper – Words from one of Brixton’s most eloquent sons.
“From the street to the stage, from the studio to the news room, rapper and activist Potent Whisper is reputed for using rhyme to create discussion on, and artistic response to, the most important social and political issues of our time.”
PLUS the usual eclectic and electric sounds from the Antenna house DJs… and MORE TBC. Stay tuned!
We’ll also be running the bar this time, so we can potentially up our takings a lot, especially if you lot like to drink on a school night!
Where exactly will the money be going? HASL says:
“Money raised will help us continue and grow the mutual support and collective action we organise together on housing and other poverty issues. In HASL we work together on housing issues that we face (our activities range from supporting each other at the housing office, filling out forms together, occupying the town hall, and resisting evictions) and fight for quality, secure, truly affordable homes for everyone. Funds raised will go towards covering the group’s vital costs including our meeting room hire, leaflet printing (there are lots of them!!), our monthly lunch clubs, legal trainings and action skill shares and more! We look forward to meeting you on the night and talking more about HASL and how you can get involved!”
Sound good? See you there.
DECENT, TRULY AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR ALL
