Stop Lambeth Council pushing Myatts Field South residents into fuel poverty!

Protest outside Lambeth County Court, Cleaver Street, Kennington Road, SE11 4DZ
9.30am, Tuesday 1 December

Residents of Myatts Field South estate near Brixton have been fighting to have their communal heating system refurbished. Instead, Lambeth Council are trying to force them to have expensive individual boilers installed in each flat.

Many of the residents are elderly, disabled or on low incomes, and will not be able to afford to keep their poorly insulated flats warm with the high bills they will have to pay to use the new boilers.

In addition, the flats contain asbestos which could be disturbed during the installation of the new boilers, yet Lambeth Council refuse to even investigate this.

£4.5m was previously ring-fenced to refurbish the communal heating system on the estate and 290 people (on an estate of 300 homes) signed a petition in favour of this rather than the individual boilers. Yet Lambeth Council is pressing ahead with their plans and is taking out injunctions against the residents to force them to have the individual boilers installed in their homes.

Come and support the residents protesting outside Lambeth County Court at 9.30am on Tuesday 1 December.

The first injunction hearing takes place at 10am.
